Concert Bands:
As the original high school in the city of Waukesha, the Waukesha South Bands have a long and illustrious history. The bands of Waukesha have always had a reputation of excellence, and it was here at South that the reputation began.
In our exciting history, the South bands have traveled to places including New Orleans, Switzerland, Texas, Florida, England, and California. Our concert bands have performed for world-renowned composer, conductors, and clinicians. Our jazz bands have played in New Orleans, the birth-place of jazz and on San Francisco's Pier 39. Our marching band has marched in London's New Year's Day Parade, one of the largest parades in the world and performed for former Vice-President Gore.
Three concert bands are offered at South. The Concert Band is the entry-level band, comprised mostly of freshmen and sophomores. The Symphonic Winds and Percussion and Wind Ensemble are comprised of seniors, juniors, some sophomores, and select freshmen. Auditions are required for membership in these elite groups.
The Waukesha South Bands continue to provide excellent educational opportunities for the students of Waukesha South High School. In addition, the band is one of the most visible and active ambassadors of South High School, both within the community of Waukesha, and throughout the state, country, and world.
