Candy Bar Sales wrapped up (Reminder)
We still have a lot of candy bar sales money outstanding. Please have your student turn in their money this week to the safe in the band room. Remind them to identify the money they are turning in clearly! Each box is worth $40 dollars and $20 of that goes into your student’s passbook account. Butter Braids sale started (New)Butter Braid is the original, braided, fundraising pastry dough that the customer lets rise 10-12 hours or until it doubles in size, and then bakes to produce a delicious breakfast/dessert entrée. They come in Apple, Cherry, Cinnamon, Cream Cheese, Raspberry, or Bavarian Creme and sell for $11 each. Money should be collected before the March 31st delivery date. All monies need to be paid prior to order pick up on the 31st. If the band sells 350 or more, they will make $4.50 per braid sold. This is an easy to sell product that will be delivered right before Easter! Ask your student about this fundraiser—brochures were handed out Thursday (3/3) during band. April 20th, Jazz Day (Save the Date!) Guest Artist Jason Gillette (a Waukesha South Band Alum) will be at South for a daytime workshop and mini-concert. An evening concert for the public will be held at South at 7:30pm. Click for Information
Mar. 15th, Band Booster Meeting (Date Changed!) Come and hear what's happening with the band programs, and be a voice in shaping the program directions. Parents, we meet in the Band Room at South at 7pm on March 15th (this replaces the meeting that was scheduled for the 9th). By the 15th, district budgets will be submitted, and we should have some idea about student registrations, enrollments, FTE's and other information that can help us set goals and prepare a preliminary budget for 2010/2011. If you have not attended in the past, come to this meeting to really hear that's going on.

Mar. 15th, Australia Payment Due (Reminder) $375 installment payment is due March 15th for those planning on Australia in 2011. See the Payment Schedule for more information.
Mar. 22nd, Great Lakes Scrip (Reminder) An easy fundraiser; purchase gift cards for places you normally shop at and get a percentage back right away. Choose from hundreds of places. Orders will be placed monthly on the last business day of the month at 4pm, except in Feb when orders will be placed at 4pm on Feb 22nd (per the requests of many parents) and in March the orders will be placed on March 22nd at 4pm (due to Easter). Orders must be pre-paid. See instructions.
Mar. 24th, Suites & Treats Concert (Date Changed)
The Suites & Treats Concert has been moved from March 10th to March 24th! The Concert will involve Full Orchestra as well as some of the WSMA ensembles!
April 17/18, Bob Kames Jazz Festival (New)
The Jazz band will be attending the Bob Kames Jazz Festival competition on Saturday the 17, and the Workshop and Concert with the Gordin Goodwin Big Phat Band will be on Sunday the 18th.
April 20, Jazz Day (New)
We will have a guest artist for a daytime workshop and mini-concert. An evening concert will be at 7:30pm. This day will feature Waukesha South Band Alum Jason Gillette. Jason is among the most talented performers in the midwest. He is currently the band director at Brookfield Central High School. He will be featured performing with the South Jazz Band. BINGO
On Sunday night, Jan 31st, we hosted our first BINGO Fundraiser at South with the help of the Bob Kames Foundation (www.BobKamesFoundation.org). Over one hundred of us participated, great snacks were provided, and the Jazz Band performed. Thank you to the many people who helped make this a success, to the Jazz Band, and to everyone who participated as this will help our band's fund raising needs. Over $600 was raised for the band!

CONGRATULATIONS - Twins are born!
Mr K is a Grandpa! Twin grandchildren Emma Grace and Emmit Guy Riffe were born Thursday night, both at 5 lbs 5 oz. The babies are perfect and mom (Stacia) is doing well.
An Excellent Winter Showcase

Holiday Concert a Success!
The Waukesha South Bands performed "A Christmas Peace" based on music that was commissioned for them, called "Homage and Honor: The Christmas Truce." Congratulations to all on a GREAT performance. Photo's are in the Walgreens Gallery. A DVD of the Dec 21st performance is available for a small donation ($1.00) to the band (all proceeds will go to the band's general fund raising needs). Have your student put $1 in the band's safe marked as "donation" and they can pick up a DVD in the band room. The DVD contains video of the performance and the supplemental video clips that told the story.

2010 WSMA High School State Honors
The WSMA High School State Honors Music Project registration is open now and closes Friday 12/4/2009 at midnight. Late registrations are not accepted. Audition invoices and fees with signatures should be sent to WSMA and must be postmarked no later than Dec 11, 2009. Audition registration is online: www.wsmamusic.org
Two from South Selected for State Honors Band
Waukesha South Bands had several musicians try out for the State Honors Band again this year, congratulations to all who tried out. Selected to the State Honors Band were Andrew Sowatzke and Laura Como, our hats go off to them and we wish them the best as they travel to Madison over teachers convention to play with the Honors Band. Navy Pier, Chicago, Oct 4th
The Marching Band performed on Navy Pier on the Grand Staircase for a large audience on Sunday afternoon. Pictures are in the Gallery (the Band's Walgreens site).
1st place at Cranfest in Warrens, WI
Congratulations to the South Band for 1st place in class AAAA at the 2009 Cranfest Parade competition. We all got a bit wet, and a little cold, but it was a great time and an excellent performance! Pictures from the trip are in the Gallery.

Over 4,000 band students participated at Camp Randall Stadium during the Badger Football Game's 1/2 Time show. South's band then headed to the Dells for team-building and fun. Pictures from the weekend are in the Gallery. |

Smart Music
The band is using a computer program called Smart Music this year. Ordering information for subscribing to Smart Music at home is located here.
Support the 'All School Boosters' The more we support the All School Boosters, the better chance we have of band funding. We need at least 50% membership of band parents. Become a member by purchasing an activity pass. A Booster Club sign-up sheet was included the South Spotlight for back-to-school. The All School Boosters will also have a table at registration, Southfest and the first few football games. By joining you are getting discounted access to most of South’s sporting events, as well as an opportunity to qualify for a senior scholarship for your student...
