Happy New Year
Happy New Year from the South Bands and Boosters. As we come to the end of another year, from a booster perspective we have had a successful first semester. We raised enough funds this year in fees and fundraising to support the band in its activities also replaced the boys Cummerbunds with Tuxedo's at a cost of about $3,000. If you went to the Holiday Concert we are sure you would agree on this investment and how smart they looked. Without exception they performed an excellent concert and along with all the favorites there was a good measure of new music as well.
Jazz Band Playing Thursday Night
Marketday - Pick up is Thursday, Dec. 20th at Whittier Elementary School. Internet order cutoff is Monday, Dec. 17th at noon. Paper order cutoff is Thursday, Dec. 13th, to Terri Como. Why not shop online!! Check out more details in the fundraiser section of our website .
Poinsettias @ Christmas Concert - Many people love poinsettias! Lots of people buy them during the holiday season - either for decorations at your own home, or for gifts. How about combining your love of poinsettias with a stunning display for our stage the night of our holiday concert, Monday, December 17th!!!? The plant is in a 6 1/2" pot, stands 15"-19" tall, with 6-8 beautiful red blooms. They will hold their color for approximately 6 to 8 weeks. All plants arrive in a decorative, waterproof foil. If you would like to order a poinsettia for the holiday season, they are just $12 each. To get this special low price, we have to sell a minimum number of plants. We are asking each family to purchase one poinsettia to help us meet this minimum. All orders must be in by Monday, December 10th. You may order your poinsettia in one of two ways:
- Send an e-mail to Sarah Wehmeier swehmeie@waukesha.k12.wi.us with your name and the number of plants that you would like, or
- Call 970-3778 and leave a message with your name, phone number, and the number of plants you would like.
- Printable Order Form here (drop off to band safe or hand to Sarah Wehmeier).
The preferred method of payment is in advance by depositing a check in the band safe. You may also pay the night of the concert. The plants may be taken home at the conclusion of our Monday, December 17th concert. What's the catch? There isn't any! Thanks in advance for your help with this.
Citrus Sale - Thank you to Susan Sowatzke for organizing the citrus sale and to everyone that helped unload and picked up their orders on Saturday. It seems that each year, along with the fruit, we order snow and ice. This year was no exception!
Please make sure your customers receive their orders in a timely manner. Fresh Florida citrus will last much longer under refrigeration. Temperatures from 35 to 50 degrees F are best. For grapefruit, a temperature between 45 and 48 degrees is recommended. If refrigerator storage space is a problem, citrus can be stored in any cool, dry place.
For those that did not order fruit we are expecting a donation to the general band fund of $25.
Bandquet- The banquet was successful and enjoyable, thank-you to everyone that came and supported the recognition of the students.
Congratulations Blackshirts! The Blackshirt Band finished in 4th Place in Class AAAA. Thank you parents, students, and supporters for a terrific 2007 season!

Homecoming Chili-Feed Officially "A SUCCESS"
A HUGE THANK YOU!!!!!! to all the band parents for their support, help, and donations of chili that made this years event so successful. It couldn’t have been done without Mary Beth Mack and Teri Launius who organized and coordinated this fundraiser. We had 52 buckets of chili donated and 320 people through the door. Thank-you also to several school teams that came in and were heartily fed. We also had a donation from Dave Rusch and the football team. We appreciate your support.
Hot, Hot, Hot!
Who would have thought that it would be in the 80's in October "Up North"? After a hard days work at Merril, the band was crisp, sharp, and sounded great for the evening competition at DC Everest. Congratulations to South with a 3rd place score of 74.29.
Sunday we had the "breakfast of champions" (scrambled eggs) out of a Packers slow cooker ( Pic1 & Pic2). The band says "Hi Mom and Dad" while they eat breakfast ( Pic3).
Photos
We have new photos on the Walgreens group website thanks to John Hillmer and Alicia Silvia. The advantage of using this group is that if you like a photo (or two or three) you can get them printed and pick them up at your local Walgreens. There must be many photos out there. Take a little time and share with everyone. It's free. All you have to do is register. Upload to your account and share with the WSBB group. Information in Galleries.
Support the 'All School Boosters' This year the All School Boosters helped fund $1000 of band equipment. The more we support the All School Boosters, the better chance we have of band funding. We need at least 50% membership of band parents. Become a member by purchasing an activity pass. A Booster Club sign-up sheet was included the South Spotlight for back-to-school. The All School Boosters will also have a table at registration, Southfest and the first few football games. By joining you are getting discounted access to most of South’s sporting events, as well as an opportunity to qualify for a senior scholarship for your student.
